Who it’s for

Who is SourceX’s data program for?

SourceX’s company program covers operating, acquired and wound-down businesses. It describes 50 full-time employees at peak, excluding contractors, and prioritizes the US while accepting certain other markets. English-language requirements vary by location; confirm the current criteria for your company.

For an acquired or closed business, begin with ownership rather than the export. Identify which entity retains the records and who can sign. Our defunct-company guide provides a practical planning framework without assuming an old founder still controls every asset.

Get prepared

What should you prepare?

Prepare an authority-and-inventory worksheet. The person who can open an archive may not be the person who can approve its licensing.

  • Peak headcount: Separate full-time employees from contractors and record when the peak occurred.
  • Company status: Note whether the business operates, was acquired or has closed.
  • Record custody: Identify who currently holds each archive and which entity owns the relevant rights.
  • Data scope: Describe systems, date ranges, language and the work the records document.
  • Existing commitments: Flag prior licenses or other agreements affecting the same records.

Start with descriptions and responsible parties. Do not treat an initial fit estimate as authorization to export data or as a binding purchase offer.

Revenue & payments

How does payment work?

SourceX describes a one-time dataset fee, with some agreements covering recurring deliveries. Its public overview says there are no royalties or usage fees and points to a signed Dataset Deal Confirmation for the exact amount. Standard payment follows Closing and a valid invoice, with a stated 60-calendar-day period unless different terms are signed. Source: SourceX’s deal-terms FAQ.

Ask what “Closing” requires, which deliverables are priced and what happens if only part of the archive is selected. Compare the amount actually due with any future work the agreement requires; the referral partner’s separate reward is not the seller’s compensation.

Example deals and partnerships

We did not identify a publicly documented completed SourceX transaction in the sources reviewed. Its case-study library describes logistics, software and home-services scenarios, but explicitly labels them fictional composites rather than real customers or deals. They illustrate a process; they do not establish a seller’s earnings.

What to ask for

Ask for a company-approved reference involving comparable records, including the data accepted, rights licensed and payment conditions. SourceX says actual case studies should follow completed engagements and use details approved by the company involved.

Rights & control

Which licensing terms deserve attention?

SourceX’s public FAQ describes exclusivity for AI training and says the original data remains owned by the company. It also describes continuing rights after a completed deal. Read the specific license term, prepared-dataset rights and onward-use provisions together; keeping the original files does not mean retaining every commercial licensing option. • Exactly which records are covered by the exclusivity restriction?
  • How long does exclusivity last, and which rights continue after payment?
  • What are SourceX’s rights to the prepared dataset and onward licenses?
  • Who can approve exclusions and resolve questions about acquired or closed-company assets?

Good questions, clear answers

Questions before you apply

Does current headcount have to be at least 50?

SourceX describes full-time headcount at the company’s peak. It also reviews operating history, rights and other eligibility conditions.

Can a closed company apply?

The public program includes wound-down businesses. The party controlling the records and signing authority must still be established.

Does a fit estimate commit the company to a sale?

SourceX says its initial fit check is nonbinding. Obligations arise from the agreements ultimately signed, so review the proposed terms before proceeding.
