What makes data worth licensing?
Data is easier to evaluate when you can explain its provenance, coverage, distinctive value and licensing rights. A potential partner also needs to know which AI use it could support. Those details help establish fit; they do not guarantee a sale.
Prepare four things
- Provenance: where the data came from and how it was created.
- Coverage: its format, approximate volume, dates and languages.
- Distinctiveness: the knowledge or real-world activity it captures.
- Rights: who can authorize the proposed use and what restrictions apply.
A relevant, well-described dataset gives a provider something concrete to evaluate. There is no universal price per file or guarantee of a buyer.
